Backstage, TRESemmé‘s Global Stylist Odile Gilbert whipped the team into shape with a few choice words: “The key to this look is to create smooth and shiny hair, without it looking oily, for a chic and sophisticated style.” Read on for a step-by-step breakdown of how they achieved these red carpet-worthy ponies:
Get the Look: Deep Side Part Updo at Carolina Herrera F/W 2017
Step 1: Start in the shower.
Start on clean, washed hair. We like the smooth shine we get from TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo and TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Conditioner.
Step 2: Use (heat) protection!
Coat hair all over with a thermal protectant, such as TRESemmé Get Sleek Heat Protection Spray, to help shield strands during heat styling. Blow-dry entire head until your hair is 90% dry.
Step 3: Create your part.
Create your deep side part updo by using a rat-tail or fishtail comb to part your hair a few inches above one ear. Comb thoroughly towards the other side to fully detangle and smoothen hair down, then iron hair in sections with a straightening iron to ensure the entire head is pin-straight. Ed’s tip: If you can, clamp hair straight in paper-thin sections for more even, flawlessly straight results.
Step 4: Tame down the frizzies on your base.
A styling product applied to the roots, like TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximizer, helps tame any flyaways or halo frizz for a sleeker pony. Next, tilt your chin down to better gather hair at the nape for your low ponytail. Secure hair at your nape with a hair elastic.
Step 5: Shine on.
Amp up the shine with a careful dabbing of TRESemmé Botanique Damage Recovery Oil Elixir to your base and lengths. This helps give your deep side part ponytail that enviable mirror-like, paparazzi-friendly shine.
Step 6: Shield it from the elements.
Finish off with a light coating of hairspray (we like the non-sticky finish of TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Firm Hold Hairspray) to keep everything in place and protected from sudden winter flurries once you step outside. Your deep side part updo is done!
